Follow our top tips to make the most out of your blog.
- Don’t rely on traffic to your website to get blog readers. Think about how else you can promote your blog and each post which you publish. Social media networks such as Twitter or Facebook are great places to share your post and spark discusion.
- Include images or videos to make the post more interesting and help break up a block of text.
- Include relevant links or maybe a ‘read more’ line to point people to other parts of your website. This will encourage people to spend longer on your site and find out more about what you do.
- Make the title engaging – use it to pique people’s interest. Give them a reason to read on but be clear about what the post focusses on.
- Keep blog posts short, between 500 and 800 words. This is long enough to make a good point but not so long that people will lose interest.
- Include a call to action. What do you want people to do after they read your blog? Let them know and make it as easy as possible for them. For example, if you’re writing about your latest fundraising efforts include a link to your donation page and ask for contributions.
- Make it easy to share on social media by ticking the ‘show print/email/social’ box when creating your blog post.
